Tiger Brokers Fined $60M as Eightcap Names New CEO Amid Forex Industry Shifts

by Anna

The forex broker industry has experienced significant developments recently, including high-profile executive changes and regulatory penalties that are reshaping the market landscape. These events highlight the dynamic nature of the sector as brokers adjust to new challenges and opportunities.

One of the most notable regulatory actions involved Tiger Brokers, a Far East-focused online broker, which faced a hefty $60 million fine imposed by Chinese regulators. The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) penalized Tiger Brokers for illegal activities, resulting in a combined fine and confiscation of illegal income totaling approximately $60 million. This action caused a sharp 28% drop in the shares of UP Fintech Holding Ltd, Tiger Brokers’ parent company, on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

In Australia, Eightcap, a well-known CFDs broker, announced key leadership changes at the start of 2026. Bryn Newell was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer after serving as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer within the company. His promotion follows the recent departure of Ollie Rosewell, who had been Eightcap’s UK CEO for about eight months. These changes come shortly after Alex Howard stepped down as Eightcap’s CEO in late 2024, indicating a period of significant transition for the broker.

Kraken, a major player in the cryptocurrency exchange market, has also made strides by launching Kraken Prop, a proprietary trading program aimed at skilled traders. This initiative offers traders access to substantial capital and allows them to retain up to 90% of profits. The launch follows Kraken’s acquisition of Breakout, a retail crypto prop trading firm. This move signals growing interest among established firms to expand into prop trading, traditionally dominated by smaller startups.

Polish CFDs broker XTB SA has rebranded its institutional arm, X Open Hub, now known as XTB Institutional. The rebranding comes with a refreshed website and aims to better showcase its institutional offerings. XTB Institutional reported its best quarter ever in Q1 2026, generating revenue of approximately $7.2 million (PLN 26.2 million), reflecting strong growth in its liquidity and broker technology services.

Other executive shifts across the forex and CFD brokerage landscape include Andrew Lane taking on the CEO role at MarketReader while retaining his position at Acuity Trading. Kira Financial appointed Sophie Stabler as Head of Global Partnerships to expand its introducing broker network. Empire FX strengthened its African operations by hiring Linda Nkatha Muriuki from Pepperstone as Head of Sales. Meanwhile, Kirill Chernikov returned to Spotware Systems as Chief of Staff after leading Markets CRM.

These developments illustrate ongoing strategic repositioning within the forex broker industry amid regulatory pressures and evolving market demands. Brokers are not only responding to regulatory scrutiny but are also innovating through leadership changes and new product offerings to remain competitive globally.
