U.S. Dollar Rises on Hawkish Fed Outlook and Strong Taipei Forex Trading

by Anna

The U.S. dollar experienced a significant boost across global forex markets following the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting and revised economic forecasts. In Taipei, the dollar closed higher against the Taiwan dollar, reflecting increased investor confidence amid growing expectations of future interest rate hikes. The greenback ended trading at NT$31.575, up by NT$0.016 from the previous session. Throughout the day, trading volume reached approximately US$1.611 billion, with the currency fluctuating between NT$31.538 and NT$31.590, indicating steady demand and active market participation.

The surge in the dollar’s value closely aligns with the Federal Reserve’s recent decision to hold interest rates steady while adopting a more hawkish outlook for the coming months. At Kevin Warsh’s first meeting as Fed Chair, policymakers signaled that a rate increase could be on the horizon later this year. About half of the Federal Open Market Committee members now anticipate at least one rate hike ahead. This shift in sentiment pushed the U.S. Dollar Index past the psychologically important 100 mark, underscoring changing trader expectations.

Inflation projections played a central role in driving market sentiment. The Fed sharply revised its forecast for Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation in 2026, raising it to 3.6% from an earlier 2.7%. Core PCE inflation estimates also increased to 3.3%, up from 2.7%. These upward adjustments have intensified demand for the dollar as investors prepare for tighter monetary policy measures aimed at containing persistent inflationary pressures.

The dollar posted its largest gains against major currencies including the British pound and euro in response to these developments. The euro faces particular uncertainty amid debates over whether its recent recovery can be sustained or if shifts in U.S. policy will trigger further volatility. Traders remain cautious, monitoring evolving economic data and central bank signals that could influence currency valuations in the weeks ahead.

Market experts warn that forex trading involves significant risks given ongoing geopolitical tensions and global economic fluctuations. They advise traders to carefully consider their financial goals, experience levels, and risk tolerance before engaging in currency trading or leveraged products such as futures and contracts for difference (CFDs).

Looking ahead, forex markets are expected to remain volatile as central bank communications and inflation data continue to shape investor expectations. The U.S. dollar’s recent strength highlights anticipation of tighter monetary policy to combat inflation, with traders worldwide closely watching upcoming economic reports and policy statements that will influence currency trends going forward.
