A resident of Thane was defrauded of Rs 93.30 lakh after falling prey to an intricate forex trading scam involving a deceptive digital platform. The fraud was orchestrated through a specially designed app that displayed false profits, convincing the victim that his investments were growing rapidly.
The scam was carried out by two individuals, Ananya Agarwal and Mukul Agarwal, who manipulated the trading application to show the victim’s actual deposits alongside fabricated earnings amounting to Rs 3 crore. These inflated returns encouraged the investor to continue adding funds to the platform between January and May of this year.
The illusion collapsed when the investor tried to withdraw his principal amount and the supposed profits. The app blocked all withdrawal attempts, exposing the fraudulent nature of the operation. Local law enforcement has since registered formal charges against the two accused, accusing them of cheating and forgery related to this sophisticated forex trading scam.
Investigations are ongoing, but neither Ananya Agarwal nor Mukul Agarwal has been apprehended yet. Authorities are actively pursuing all individuals involved in this scheme, which highlights a troubling trend of cyber-enabled financial fraud targeting unsuspecting investors.
This case underscores the rising threat of forex trading scams where fraudsters use technology to fabricate trustworthy-looking platforms and lure investors with promises of quick and large returns. Financial experts warn investors to remain cautious about platforms that guarantee unusually high profits in a short time frame.
Experts advise verifying the legitimacy of any trading app and consulting with credible financial advisors before investing significant sums. The Thane incident serves as a stark warning about the risks embedded in digital investment schemes and emphasizes the need for vigilance to protect personal finances against increasingly sophisticated scams.
Authorities urge anyone approached with similar forex trading offers or suspecting fraudulent activity to report it promptly to help prevent further victimization and safeguard the community from such deceitful practices.
