North Country Voters Urged to Register Before June 23 Primary

by Anna

Residents of the North Country still have a limited window to register to vote ahead of the upcoming primary election on June 23. The Board of Elections (BOE) has set a firm deadline of June 13 for mailed voter registration applications to be received. This date also marks the last day for individuals to register in person at their local BOE offices.

For those already registered, any changes to party affiliation needed to be completed by February 14. However, voters can update their residential address until June 8 to ensure their information is current. Registered voters affiliated with a political party may apply for mail-in ballots, with all mailed or online applications required by the BOE no later than June 13.

Special provisions exist for servicemembers, their families, and overseas civilians who are registered voters; they have until June 16 to request mail-in ballots. Additionally, in-person applications for mail-in ballots will be accepted up until June 22. Once mailed, ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, June 23, and must reach the county BOE offices by June 30 to be counted.

Voters also have the option to personally deliver completed ballots either directly to their county BOE or any polling place within their county before polls close on Election Day. Early voting is available from Saturday, June 13 through Sunday, June 21, providing more opportunities for voters to participate in the primary election ahead of time.

This year’s primary holds particular importance in New York’s 21st Congressional District, featuring notable races on both sides of the aisle. Democratic contenders include Blake Gendebien, a St. Lawrence County farmer, and Stuart Amoriell, a businessman from Lake Placid. On the Republican ticket, Assemblyman Robert Smullen and Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino are competing for the nomination.

The BOE urges all eligible voters to verify their registration status promptly and consider early voting or mail-in ballots as convenient options. These steps help ensure voter access while maintaining the integrity and security of the election process. Community members seeking assistance with registration or ballot requests are encouraged to contact their local Board of Elections office before these critical deadlines pass.
