A 50-year-old businessman from Rajarajeshwarinagar fell victim to a sophisticated forex trading scam after seeking a life partner through an online matrimonial platform. The man, referred to as Kalyan to protect his identity, was initially attracted to a profile under the name Chaithra. Their communication began in March when Kalyan expressed interest and sent a message to Chaithra, who responded and started chatting with him via WhatsApp.
Over time, Chaithra gained Kalyan’s trust by sharing personal stories and promising to meet him soon to discuss marriage plans. However, the relationship took a deceptive turn when she introduced him to an online forex trading opportunity, claiming it could yield substantial profits. To convince him, she shared screenshots of supposed trading successes and directed him to register on a website named “m.ftmohub.cc.”
The site appeared legitimate at first, displaying attractive returns on initial investments. Kalyan started with a small amount of Rs 50,000, which seemed to generate quick profits, encouraging him to invest further. As the scam progressed, he transferred larger sums through RTGS and IMPS payments into various bank accounts controlled by the fraudsters.
Despite the promising appearance of the trading platform and the support of fake advisors introduced by Chaithra, the entire scheme was fraudulent. The scammers used fabricated data to lure Kalyan into investing more money over several weeks. Eventually, he realized that the promised profits were false, and he had lost nearly Rs 56 lakh.
This case highlights the growing risks associated with forex trading scams, especially when combined with emotional manipulation through matrimonial or social platforms. Experts warn that such scams often begin by establishing personal trust before convincing victims to make financial investments in fake schemes.
Authorities advise individuals interested in forex trading to verify the credibility of platforms thoroughly and avoid transferring money based on unsolicited recommendations or online relationships. Victims are encouraged to report suspicious activities promptly to law enforcement agencies to help track down and prevent further fraud.
The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of combining personal vulnerabilities with complex financial frauds. It underscores the need for greater public awareness about how scammers exploit both emotional trust and technical deception in the growing online investment environment.
